Stage 1 · From the Big Nickel
Setting Out from the Big Nickel
Gateway measures its casino from the Big Nickel and calls the trip a 14 minute drive. The Big Nickel has no point in this guide's map data, so it gets a route link and no kilometres. The route button opens Google Maps for the road itself.
Measured in a straight line, the Sudbury city point sits 15.8 km south-east of the casino. A drive out from the city centre therefore heads north-west. Azilda, the nearest community on the list, sits 4.7 km south-east. Chelmsford follows at 5.1 km south-west. The map above draws the line from any community, and a road always runs longer than its line.

Bonin Road and the Old Track
Inside the City of Greater Sudbury, Gateway Casinos Sudbury occupies 400 Bonin Road, Chelmsford, ON P0M 1L0. The building sits on the grounds of the old Sudbury Downs racetrack. Its phone is 705-855-7164, and its own website, sudbury.gatewaycasinos.com, runs in English and in French.
It opened on November 26, 1999, as OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs. Harness racing stopped after October 30, 2013, and has not returned, so the property is no longer a racino. Gateway Casinos & Entertainment took over the daily running in May 2017, as operator of OLG's North gaming bundle.

Stage 3 · Lot and door
The Lot and the Door
The casino lot charges nothing for parking. Admission at the door requires guests to be 19 or over, with valid photo identification issued by a government. Anyone aged 21 or younger needs one more piece of ID showing their name. Ontario law keeps people under 19 out of casinos, except employees at work. The door stays closed to anyone who is trespassed or self-excluded from any gaming property in Ontario.
The venue publishes no shuttle, taxi stand, city bus route or valet, and the property has no hotel. Guests with disabilities who ask can be offered a wheelchair, help with communication, or material in an accessible format.
Stage 4 · Two clocks
The Floor Clock and the Table Clock
Each day, the slot floor welcomes players from 10 am. On nights that begin Sunday through Thursday it closes at 2 am. Nights that begin Friday or Saturday end at 4 am. Either closing lands past midnight, so it belongs to the following calendar day.
Live tables keep their own clock: 4 pm to midnight Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 am Friday and Saturday. On Sunday they deal from noon to midnight. Champions, the restaurant with light meals, snacks and drinks, has no published hours. No holiday hours appear either, so before a trip on a holiday the number to ring is 705-855-7164. The crystals tool below shows any hour in Sudbury local time.

Stage 5 · The games
Machines, Cards and Dealers
The slot floor holds more than 400 machines. Six live tables are dealt by real dealers. Blackjack takes three of them. Four Card Poker, Mississippi Stud and Ultimate Texas Hold'em get one table apiece, and no game outside these four is dealt live.
A poker room is not part of the casino's list. Craps, roulette, keno, baccarat, sports betting and bingo are not on it either. Electronic table games remain unconfirmed, so they are left off here. The search tool below gives an answer for any game typed in by name.

The long way in
Longer Lines from Farther Towns
Visitors from farther out meet longer lines. Espanola lies 60 km south-west in a straight line, while Elliot Lake is 118 km west and Sault Ste. Marie 244 km west. To the east, Sturgeon Falls is 96 km away and North Bay 132 km. Timmins lies 210 km north, and Toronto 355 km south-east.
A road always covers more ground than its straight line, and no drive times appear here for these towns. Before setting out from any of them, the floor's closing time is worth knowing. Nights that begin Sunday to Thursday end there at 2 am; Friday and Saturday nights stretch to 4 am. Live dealing ends sooner on every night of the week.

Card and cash
A Card, Cash and a Cap
My Club Rewards is the house loyalty card. Membership costs nothing; Guest Services enrols anyone who shows valid ID, and members then collect points while playing the slot machines. Bank machines and a currency exchange are on site.
Casino games are built so the house comes out ahead over time. A spending cap decided before the drive, with the trip home already planned, keeps the evening in proportion.
Online in Ontario
Online Casinos Under Ontario Rules
Ontario runs a regulated online casino market. Every bettor must be 19 or over and located in Ontario when the bet is placed. A private site needs registration with the AGCO as regulator and an operating agreement from iGaming Ontario, whose published directory names approved sites. OLG.ca is the government's own online casino. A site taking bets from people in Ontario without AGCO registration is an illegal operator in the province.
Every link marked Ad on the guide's home page points to one online casino company in private hands, and that company pays this guide a commission. No part of it involves the casino on Bonin Road. Through the iGaming Ontario directory, any site can be verified, this partner as well.
